A typical day in the village of Cansaulim is better than most. This beautiful village is known to be one of the 3 places in Goa that host the Three King's Festival every year on January 06. The festival is dedicated to the Three Kings of Magi who came with their gifts to the infant Jesus Christ. The Three Kings Chapel is set on a hill, and the people climb the many steps to reach it, in what then becomes a pilgrimage that they make devotedly for nine days every year. On the feast day, three boys between the ages of 8 and 12 are chosen from each of the three villages and they have crowned the Magi for that year. This is a great honor, the boys groom and conduct themselves accordingly. They are swathed in rich costumes and brought in procession, via three different routes, astride white horses and preceded by a brass band, to the Church on the Mount.
This Trail takes you on a journey into this beautiful festival, and we discover the making of the village of Cansaulim along with it. We explore this festival with those who have lived and grown with these stories and festivities and also helps us break the myths associated with the Three Kings Chapel. We visit some prominent houses of the village, interact with the locals and taste some amazing delicacies during this trail.
Note: This is not a walking trail. Transport would be required between the different points in the trail. We recommend using the same transport that you come by for the whole trail. Transport is not provided by Soul Travelling.
