Walk into the rustic settings of a Goan bakery to experience a baking session in progress. Goa’s culinary is a tell tale, it’s a mix of many different cultures, Pao making is one of the art brought to Goa by the Portuguese and now it rests at the core of Goa’s culinary scene. Majorda is the place where the Goans were first trained in the art bread making. 

Take a deep breath and let the aroma of bread, and burning wood, fill up your senses. Then make way for freshly-baked bread hot out of the oven. Watch the steam rise as you break a piece of the piping hot Pao and take in the sweet smell before you bite into the soft, spongy centre that swiftly melts in your mouth. That is what the Life of Pao is all about.

Once the bread is baked, we take it to a chic eatery in Majorda. Here, the freshly baked Pao is transformed using a variety of delicious ingredients. This unique fusion of Goan bread-making tradition and creative culinary expertise results in mouthwatering creations that perfectly blend the flavors of rich culinary heritages.

Note: This is not a walking trail. Transport would be required between the different points in the trail. We recommend using the same transport that you come by for the whole trail. Transport is not provided by Soul Travelling.

What is the itinerary like? 

The itinerary includes a warm welcome and brief introduction to the history of Margao, a visit to the railway station, meeting a local baker, a hands-on pao-making experience, baking Goan bread in a wood-fired oven, collecting the baked Pao and trying out an assortment of Poi-Sandwich combinations. 

Is transportation provided by Soul Travelling as a part of the bread making experience? 

Soul Travelling does not provide transportation service for this or any of the trails. Guests are encouraged to arrange for their own for the full trip. 

How is the baking process carried out during the Life of Pao trail? 

The baking session takes place at a traditional mud bakery in Majorda where guests enjoy hands-on experience baking Pao under the instructions of a baker.

Majorda is commonly known as the region where locals were originally taught the technique of bread making, therefore it’s an excellent spot to learn about the traditional pao-making method.

Can participants customize their Pao with different fillings during the experience?

Yes, guests can experiment with a variety of condiments, toppings, and stuffings to create individually customized ‘panino’ from freshly baked Pao.

What is the cancellation policy for the Life of Pao experience? 

The cancellation policy is as follows: 

  • Any cancellations made 24 hrs before the experience a 100% refund.
  • Cancellations made 12 hrs prior to the experience will experience a 50% refund.
  • Cancellations that are made less than 12 hrs prior to the experience will not be issued with any refund.
